 Board of Directors Jen Smith
Jen Smith
Director
Jen loves living in the Kootenays, and is passionate about promoting awareness of, and support for, the social, ecological and economic benefits of accessible and affordable local and organic food.
Jen holds a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) and has completed one year of law school. She has served on a variety of boards and committees, has a genuine appreciation for the dedication required to be a volunteer, and is enthusiastic about community development. Her work experience in Nelson includes time as a former deli delight at the Kootenay Co-op, which she values for how much she learned about food, herself, and healthy work environments. During this time she was actively involved with the Waste-Reduction committee, which sought to reduce the ecological footprint of the Co-op and to foster more earth-friendly shopping practices. Most recently, Jen worked as the Project Coordinator for the Nelson & District Arts Council, and at the farmer’s market for a local food vendor. Her volunteer experience includes work for the Advocacy Centre and the West Kootenay Women’s Association.
Jen enjoys creative expression through a variety of mediums, hiking in the mountains, floating down the Slocan, growing and preserving fruits and veggies, and cooking meals to share with friends. Jen is excited about the opportunity to make a positive contribution to her community by serving on the Board, and appreciates the ability to work for an organization whose values she shares.
