What should members know about you?
My name is Amed “Am” Naqvi. I am a Chartered Accountant and have been in public practice for over 30 years.
I have served on several not for profit Organizations as a Director, as Chair, as Vice Chair and Finance Chair.
I have served on the Hospital Board and the Library Board and currently completed my terms on the Board of the Columbia Basin Trust and Kootenay Savings Credit Union. I am currently serving as a Director on the Nelson Police Board and work very well with my fellow members and colleagues in a cooperative manner and seek consensus to make sure that all needs are addressed in decision making.
Today, practicing transparency and accountability for all organizations is of paramount importance and practicing Corporate Social responsibility continues to be a primary organizational objective.
As we move forward, the Kootenay Co-op will have to greatly enhance its services and expand its lines of business to serve the increasing needs of its members and address the competitive environment that we face today. With my background in Finance and business management, I hope to be of value to the Kootenay Coop’s Board and Management in their deliberations and action plans for the future direction and success of the Coop system.
I support the “Policy Governance” style of leadership and corporate governance, which allows the staff maximum flexibility in carrying out their duties at the same time sets executive limitations allowing the Board proper oversight and control.
Why do you want to serve on the Board of Directors?
The Kootenay Co-op is a major employer and an important part of our community. Its 13,000 plus members speaks to its significance and impact on us.
Its success and sustainability is of vital importance to all that live in this greater Nelson area. I wish to be able to contribute to this objective.
What about your personal qualities, skills and experience would make you a good Director for the Co-op right now?
As mentioned in my profile above; I have considerable experience in governance skills and my background in finance and professional designation will help me contribute to the Kootenay Co-op’s financial success.
