Kootenay Food is all about connecting eaters to growers! The project is run by the West Kootenay Permaculture Co-op, a community-based cooperative working to build a healthy and resilient region through collaboration, education, media and net-positive initiatives. Guided by permaculture ethics, “care of earth, care of people and return of surplus,” some of their amazing work includes:
- PressFest, the community cider-pressing event that helps neighbours preserve and share fruit
- The Mobile Kitchen Classroom, making good food and food education more accessible around the region
- Kootenay Food Resiliency Project supporting farm and garden gleaning, value processing and feeding community

You can support the good work of Kootenay Food when you shop at the Kootenay Co-op! There are two easy ways to donate this December: the Change for Change boxes at each cash register, and the Annual Giving Tree. You can also add $2 or more to your grocery bill to support this worthy initiative!
Annual Giving Tree
Pick up an attractive, hand-drawn card for $10 at the Kootenay Co-op and every dollar goes to Kootenay Food. The cards make a great gift for someone who is impacted by our local food system – in other words, everyone! Cards are designed by talented Co-op staff and the Kootenay Co-op pays for the printing of the cards. Your gift raises money and awareness for Kootenay Food!
