November Organization of the Month
Each month, Kootenay Co-op features a different local, non-profit group with special emphasis at our tills (and online!) so that shoppers can easily make donations as they check out. It’s our hope that this will make it easier for you, our members, to get involved in the community through education and monetary support. Every nickel you contribute goes directly to the organization.
Nelson & District Youth Centre (NDYC)
The Nelson and District Youth Centre has been serving young people in our city with energy and pride for two decades. The Centre was thoughtfully envisioned by City Council in 1997 to “create a safe, accepting and empowering community where all youth can interact and access a variety of activities they need and enjoy.”
Most people know the Youth Centre for their fabulous indoor skate park but that’s just a fraction of what they offer. There’s a band room, art room, dance studio, indoor basketball court, pool table, Foosball and ping pong tables, too! With these healthy activities and special programs for youth to explore and learn, the Centre has grown into a place for young people and parents to gather, get exercise, learn new skills and hang out with friends.
Head to the NDYC website for a calendar of events, including Parent and Child Time for young children, Eazy Eats (cooking program for youth 12-24), and Pump up Pilates for ladies.
