How would you describe your company?

Located in beautiful Nelson BC, Little Miss Gelato takes pride in making artisanal gelato and sorbet. At Little Miss Gelato we use traditional recipes, made from scratch in small batches with all-natural ingredients. Our gelato and sorbet is made to order, to deliver a fresh and delicious product to local customers.

How long have you been in business?

I have been the new owner of Little Miss Gelato since September 2018. I’ve been part of the local farming and food community for the past decade.

What motivated you to start?

Little Miss Gelato was created by Amy Robillard in 2006 and has been a favourite family indulgence ever since. I’ve worked in the food and farming throughout my life, and I have a passion for local food. When Little Miss Gelato came up for sale, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to become part of the legacy of bringing a delicious, fun, and local gelato to market.

What are some of your greatest joys?

My greatest joy is serving customers and seeing the delight of eating gelato and sorbet on a hot summer day. I also love to work on new flavours to take to market. Even when the recipes need work the results are still delicious.

What are some of your greatest challenges?

My greatest challenges are transporting a frozen product, and working towards plastic-free and low waste packaging.

What is your vision for your company?

My vision for Little Miss Gelato is to continue making small batch gelato and sorbet, and to expand our use of local and Certified Organic ingredients. We enjoy collaborations with other local businesses for sourcing ingredients and for getting Little Miss Gelato to local customers.

Why is local purchasing important to you?

Local food and local purchasing is important to me as it supports local farmers and other local food producers/retailers. I enjoy the relationships that are built through the local food community, and I appreciate the smaller carbon footprint of local sourcing.
