Who is behind CC’s Sushi?
Don & Carol Carlgren
Where are you located?
Castlegar, BC
What do you make?
We make sushi for the people of the West Kootenays!
What’s your company’s mission?
We strive to produce the best sushi made with the freshest, highest quality ingredients available at a fair price. Yum!
How long have you been in business?
We are currently operating in our 3rd year.
What motivated you to start?
When the previous owners decided to sell their company, we thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to continue to provide a delicious, unique item for people to purchase. That, and we enjoyed eating the previous owner’s product, and weren’t sure we could live without it!
What are some of your greatest joys?
Having people come up to us and tell us how good our sushi is. I love hearing how much people enjoy CC’s! I am also filled with joy when school children get excited about having sushi included in their lunch program.
I didn’t know you provided for a lunch program! When I was growing up, we had pizza, sub, and hot dog days. Sushi seems so much healthier than sodium-soaked cold cuts on sugared-up white bread. And childhood nutrition is so important. Can you tell me any more about this lunch program and any other community-building endeavours you’re involved with?
Eleven area schools have now decided to offer our sushi as a healthy alternative for their hot lunch program. Participation ranges from once per week to once per month.
We also contribute to the Variety Club Children’s Charity annually by way of a monetary donation. Due to the fact that we work 7 days per week, we don’t have much free time to participate in many other community activities, but we’re happy to contribute however we can!
What are some of your greatest challenges?
How to determine how much product we need to stock for our retailers on any given day.
What is your vision for your company?
We just want to keep doing what we’re doing and keep doing it well: Our vision is simply to provide quality sushi using the freshest ingredients.
Why is local food and/or local purchasing important to you?
We believe that local purchasing helps to support the local economy. Another key point is that buying local provides the best quality and freshest ingredients for our product.
If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
