what is True Local?
Shopping local is about keeping dollars in your community. It’s about supporting local farmers + artisans, their families, and employees, who live, work and play in our communities. So when the industry standard for “local” changed to include anywhere within the province of BC, or within 50kms of the border, that didn’t seem very local. Our True Local program was developed to put focus on products made or grown within 160km of your Co-op. When you shop True Local you know you are directly supporting local businesses, strengthening our local food security, and keeping your dollars where you live.

20% of our largest suppliers are True Local! Your support for these suppliers ensures viability for these local businesses and their products – key staples like local bread, milk, eggs and meat – which goes a long way toward strengthening our local food security.

In peak growing season, 40% of your produce department is True Local, supporting over 25 local farmers. You can also find True Local produce, beets, potatoes, cabbages, carrots, and squash all winter long. If you missed the farmer’s market you know you can still enjoy locally grown veg right here at your Co-op.
