DIY Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
A fun DIY activity for the whole family. Naturally dye your Easter eggs by using just a few things you likely already have at home.
ingredients
2 cups of each (except only 1/4 cup for turmeric)
Shredded beets = red/pink
Red onion skins = red/orange
Yellow onion skins = orange/rusty red
Turmeric = yellow
Chopped purple cabbage (with turmeric) = green
Chopped purple cabbage = blue/green
Blueberries = blue
Dried hibiscus flowers = lavender/indigo
Distilled white vinegar
Eggs
method
Pick your colour ingredients and add to a pan with 2 cups of water and simmer, covered, for 15-30 minutes
Strain the liquid and add 1tbsp white vinegar to every 1 cup of dye liquid
Soak pre-prepared hard-boiled eggs in the dye liquid and refrigerate
The number of dips in the dye is even more important than the duration of time spent in the dye. The more stints in the dye, the deeper the colour will be, so play around
Dry the eggs and polish with a little oil to make them shine
Et voila!
