Donna Cormie made her first batch of soap as a favour for a neighbour over twenty years ago and has been finding joy in handcrafting soap for her community ever since. Each batch of Glacier SoapWorks is handmade in Kaslo BC with the highest quality ingredients.
What do you make?
I make natural soap and other natural body care products. The Kootenay Co-op carries my Calendula Body Oil and my handcrafted soap, including Calendula, Lime-patchouli, Oatmeal, Lavender-Oat, and Dead Sea Mud varieties. My Gardner’s Soap contains walnut shells as a gentle exfoliant.
How would you describe your soap-making process?
My products are handmade, ensuring the highest quality and care goes into each batch.
How long have you been in business?
I have been in business going on twenty years.
Wow! What motivated you to start?
I made my first batch of soap in 1998 as a favour to a neighbor who needed teacher gifts for her children. It was fun then and remains a pleasure today.
What are some of your greatest joys?
I enjoy interacting within my community in a positive and creative way. I love working with farmers markets and local businesses.
What’s your vision for Glacier SoapWorks?
I aim to produce high quality, reasonably priced soap, that is accessible to my community. I hope to provide a simple luxury in an increasingly complex world.
Why is local purchasing important to you?
In our increasingly complex and distant world, I believe we need to be supporting each other at the local level, from shipping and producing, to buying and selling. I think this can help to counteract the distance and bring us closer together.
