Just-a-Mere Organic Farm

Just-a-Mere Organic Farm is located in Creston and is stewarded by Danny and Miranda Turner and their amazing farm team. The Turners have been pioneers in the already vibrant and productive Creston Valley, where theirs is the first orchard in the valley to become certified organic. Just-a-Mere supplies us with spectacular cherries and blueberries in season, and amazing cherry juice and apple cider all year.

Who are the farmers at Just-a-Mere Organic Farm?
Danny and Miranda Turner purchased the farm in 2011 and work alongside an amazing farm team.

What do you grow?
Cherries, apples, blueberries and ground crops. We also press juice from our fruit right on our farm.

How would you describe your farm?
We are certified organic by PACS and have owned and operated this farm since 2011.  We transitioned it to organic immediately after buying the farm.

What motivated you to start farming?
Danny grew up in the Creston Valley and we were looking for a way to reconnect our sons to their heritage.  We feel very strongly about the role of organic food production in our economy and food system.

What are some of your greatest joys?
The first shipment of cherries to stores each year, and getting the instant positive feedback from our customers.

What are some of your greatest challenges?
Weather and climate change is significantly changing the cherry business in BC.  Hotter, drier weather and more violent storms are impacting crop production schedules and throwing the rhythm of our farm into chaos.  We have seen a significant change in the development of the crop over the past three years as the climate shifts.

What is your vision for your farm?
We want our farm to be a sustainable, year-round operation that grows and develops each year in harmony with the land, the soil, and the food we produce.  Our cherries are some of the best quality in BC and we are proud to share them with our community.

Why is local food and/or local purchasing important to you?
We believe that local food means more than food miles, it should also mean the economics of the communities that host the production.  When you buy local food, the economic benefits of your food choices stay within the communities that produce them, local jobs are created and local economies are supported.

If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
We are so grateful to everyone who buys our products and supports our farm.  We believe that every dollar spent on organic food is an investment in a sound economy and a sustainable system of agriculture.  Thank you for your support of our business and our family.
