Nelson Naturals Toothpaste

Kevin and Dana are proud to make their highly effective natural toothpaste right here in Nelson BC, and ever since their inception in 2012 they have been at the forefront of innovation in their industry. Nelson Naturals is the first plastic-free toothpaste manufacturer in the world! They were also early adopters of amazing ingredients including colloidal silver, activated charcoal, and moringa. Available in seven unique formulas with a wide array of benefits, there is something for everyone…there is even children’s flavour! Nelson Naturals’ newest product, ‘Crush & Brush,’ has been called “the most travelable toothpaste product ever.” Our members love Nelson Naturals! We are stoked that this local brand is our top-selling toothpaste!

Who are the makers behind Nelson Naturals?
We are Dana, Kevin and Truckee the dog.

What do you make?
We produce extremely clean, all-natural, plastic-free toothpaste. Our products are cruelty-free, vegan, rich in minerals & Earth friendly.

How would you describe your operation?
We are a growing company based in Nelson, BC, and we make toothpaste!

As a company, it is our mission to create the best ecofriendly toothpaste formulas on the Planet! We’ve chosen ingredients that are all-natural, fluoride-free, and super effective, all while leaving out the fillers and stabilizers you’ll find in most other brands.

7 varieties: Thievery Blend, Cinnamon, Activated Charcoal Peppermint, Spearmint, Moringa, Fennel, and Children’s Strawberry-Banana.

Your glass jars are so unique! Why did you choose glass jars and how do we use them?
We chose reusable glass jars for the packaging of our products, to contribute to a plastic-free World. By thinking “outside the tube,” we’re able to offer our customers the highest quality natural toothpaste with a plastic-free package. Since our launch, we have helped divert over ~ 60,000 plastic tubes of toothpaste away from the landfill, the land, or the oceans.

At first, some people have a hard time feeling comfortable dipping their toothbrush right into the jar. However, our naturally antibacterial formula is very effective at killing germs and bacteria in the mouth and it will do the same in the jar, removing risk of contamination. Not only that, but dipping your brush also allows you to get every last drop out, reducing waste!

Your newest product, Crush & Brush is also proudly plastic-free. What should people know about Crush & Brush?
Crush & Brush is a simple to use perfectly portioned toothpaste tablet. Tablets are lightweight, can go anywhere with you, and also uses less water than traditional toothpaste.

They are also available in bulk at your Kootenay Co-op, so you can reuse your own container. Way to go packaging free!

How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 2012. From very humble beginnings at the Cottonwood Falls Farmers Market, we are proud to say that our products can now be found in stores all across Canada and the US!

What motivated you to start Nelson Naturals?
Nelson Naturals was born out of pure necessity, because we just weren’t able to find a ‘natural’ toothpaste that could really do the job, so we created one ourselves.

What are some of your greatest joys?
The great feedback we receive from our customers really inspires us and lets us know that we are on the right track with our product.

Why is local purchasing important to you?
Choosing to buy local is so important, especially in a small community like Nelson. When you choose local you are supporting local employment and keeping more money in your community. Buying local is Voting with your Dollars! The more community support a local product has, the more we will see stores displacing bigger brands, which will consequently lead to a healthier local economy.

If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
Thank you for your enthusiastic support since the beginning! We are happy to have our toothpaste available here in our hometown Co-op!
