Who is the creator behind DoodleBug Chocolates?
What do you make?
Hand-made chocolates, made from high-quality ingredients.
How would you describe your company?
We believe in making handcrafted chocolates with the finest ingredients we can find, organic wherever possible, keeping our recipes simple and with pronounceable ingredients. We hand make all our chocolate centres using all natural flavours, no added preservatives, and our recipes are free of white sugar, corn syrup, glucose and hydrogenated oils. We cover our unique centres, from classic flavours to contemporary fusions, with premium dark, milk and white chocolate.
What motivated you to start?
I loved chocolate, but what was available commercially contained horrible ingredients, and I knew I could do better. At first, I started making chocolate for my family and friends on special occasions. I enjoyed chocolate and candy making so much and seemed to have a natural knack for it. After being laid off from my job, I turned a beloved hobby into a thriving business.
What are some of your greatest joys?
Seeing people enjoy my chocolates for the first time!
What are some of your greatest challenges?
Caramel! It’s a tricky, sticky process!
What is your vision for your company?
I would like to grow my company big enough that I could provide further employment opportunities to others in my community.
Why is local food important to you?
Local purchasing keeps resources in our community. I try to support myself and others in my local area by earning and spending my dollars locally as much as possible.
If you could deliver a message directly to Co-op members/customers, what would it be?
Thank you for the warm welcome to your store. It is wonderful to have a home for my chocolates in Nelson!
